Glenwood PD Implements the
"I Got Caught" Program
The Glenwood Police Department, in partnership with the Minnesota Police Chief's Association and local Dairy Queen establishments, has implemented the program "I Got Caught" program locally. During the summer months, children across the state will be rewarded with a free DQ ice cream when spotted wearing a helmet while riding a bike, skateboard, scooter or wearing inline skates. When “caught”, law enforcement will “cite” the child by issuing them a mock “ticket.” The ticket will include a coupon for a free small ice cream cone at participating DQ restaurants.
“Head injuries are easily preventable through the proper use of a helmet,” says Dale Danter, Glenwood Police Chief, "which is why we partner with local area organizations such as SHIP, Pope County Public Health, Glacial Ridge Health System, and the Bike & Fitness Company to promote helmet usage by young and old. With this program, wearing one can lead to a trip to DQ and not the emergency room!”
